The Alexander Aircraft Company was an aircraft manufacturer founded in Colorado in 1925. It was briefly the world’s largest aircraft manufacturer but fell victim to the Great Depression and became bankrupt in 1932. Over their lifetime they manufactured 4 different powered aircraft as well as the Alexander primary training glider. Unlike other training gliders at the time that had wooden frames and often didn’t survive hard landings, the Alexander Glider had a strong tubular metal frame.
The primary glider cost $325 and could be ordered with a $100 deposit. In order to promote sales Alexander encouraged the formation of Glider clubs where if you had 20 people chipping in the cost per person was around $40.
At Wings of History our 1930 Alexander glider is undergoing restoration in our restoration shop.
